A Shining Inspiration
Larry Shine, a single father of nine inspired me to believe that despite circumstances, the obstacles and heartache, you can go on to create the family you were meant to have.

First comes love, then comes marriage, and you know the rest. For girls of my generation, there was little question on the order of love, marriage and kids. It was all supposed to go the way the song said. Recently, I discovered, or rather I accepted, that I am classified as one of “advanced reproductive age.” A classification that frightens single girls who grew up believing in the playground ditty, but have failed to follow its prescribed order. To set the stage, there’s no boy or potential boy within a 3000 mile radius of where I now find myself: a woman in the latter part of her child-bearing years. Furthermore, any talk of biological clocks, marriage and being together forever is akin to living in Chernobyl in the 80′s, no...
Read MoreSecond Life
A few months ago, I was inspired to try my hand at some poetry. “Second Life” Years before, but not forgotten, Young fun and folly savored, ’til one day, A warm embrace, welcomes me home. Passion erases the memories missed, as; Second life desires to hope. Asleep no more, alert, I take a chance, To care, to dream, to play. I recently found that Mark Twain supported my theory that foreign travel(Canada doesn’t count) should be a requirement of all American-born citizens. “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness and many of our people need it sorely on those accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” Having seen the corruption in China where citizens are told where they will live and in Egypt where there is a clear disregard for public sanitation and trash cans, I’m grateful for the craziness that is the American system. Is our system perfect? No. But without foreign travel, I may have never seen beyond the Republican vs....

Disclaimer: I’m a little bitter right now. 1. As soon as you stop looking he’ll show up. A classic that’s been tried and tested. I stopped looking for guys in favor of Buffy, Angel and Spike, so clearly he’s not on my Tivo playlist. 2. You have to put yourself out there. Which is it folks? Put yourself out there or stop looking. This is just confusing. 3. You’re better off anyway. There might be some truth to this one, but it comes across as condescending, and totally turns off a 35 NBM girl. 4. I know someone of someone of someone who met a great guy on match. Sorry kids, but that’s just a numbers game, plain and simple. I might as well as play PowerBall and settle with my chances of winning the big one. . 5. You’re so...
